While Utah’s snowpack is at its lowest in decades for the time of year, it is central and southern Utah counties that are most concerned. Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office has closed the missing person case for Rangely resident Peter Ruffner after announcing his cause of death on Tuesday. According to the Sheriff’s Office, forensic results showed that the cause of death was drowning with contributors to death being methamphetamine and alcohol intoxication.

The community rallies every year to help those less fortunate during the Christmas season and this year was no exception. Santa’s Community Effort in the Vernal area was able to provide gifts for 167 families, a total of 481 children, shares effort coordinator Brian Gorum. The Duchesne County Old Fashioned Christmas effort also had great support, providing goods and gifts to over 80 families.
Naples City is ringing in 2018 in style and are inviting the entire Basin community to join them. Mayor Dean Baker had been contacted by a group in July about teaming up for a fireworks show and as a result the city hosted fireworks on the 24th of July.
The trickiest part of holiday cleanup is sometimes delivering the Christmas tree to its final resting place. Thankfully a group of youth are willing to help those who may have difficulty getting their tree to the mulch lot in Vernal City.
Who could forget the day in June of 2014 when a blue 10 ton tractor broke halfway through the Browns Park Swinging Bridge and sat suspended over the Green River? After several years of sorting out funding, the bridge is scheduled for repairs this spring and future maintenance was a topic at the Moffat County Commission meeting last week.
