Basin Snowpack Low; Too Early For Spring Predictions

Just ask Utah skiers if it’s been a dry year so far and their frustration will likely show through. While Utah’s snowpack is at its lowest in decades for the time of year, it is central and southern Utah counties that are most concerned. Thursday’s SNOTEL report shows that for the northeastern Uintahs, snow levels are at about 83 percent of normal for the time of year while the Duchesne River Basin is at about 61 percent of normal. While the numbers show that it is dry, Uintah Water Conservancy District General Manager Gawain Snow says it is too early for predictions because “a lot of things can change between now and spring.” Northern Utah is measuring close to normal at around 93 percent while much of southern Utah is sitting in the teens to mid twenties.
