Give Em’ Health: Tips for a Healthier 2018

TriCounty Health Department is encouraging locals to think of New Year’s resolutions in a new way. Rather than go crazy with lofty weight loss goals, think in terms of what are small things to do to improve health. We need to look small, shares TriCounty Health Director Jordan Mathis. Some tips include decreasing soda consumption by 1 can per day, making the choice to add 1 fruit or vegetable to your daily diet, and finding a form of physical activity that you find enjoyable. Don’t think of certain foods as off limits, says Mathis. Instead think of it as everyday foods or occasional foods. With physical activity, find a friend or family member to exercise with and ease into it. Recent studies make it clear that overdosing on exercise can have detrimental effects on health. In fact, too much exercise, specifically prolonged cardio like marathon training, can do more harm than good, especially to the heart. For more tips for a healthier 2018, visit
