Vernal City Manager Selected, Announcement Scheduled

There is officially a new city manager in training for Vernal City, though a formal announcement has yet to be made. According to Vernal City Mayor Sonja Norton, eight applicants were interviewed in May for the position in the second hiring attempt. After several decades serving as the Vernal City Manager, Ken Bassett officially made the announcement last August of his retirement scheduled for June 2017

App Available for Trail Navigation

Trails in Uintah County are getting plenty of attention and focused trails committee members are doing all they can to see a usable, interconnected trail system developed for the Ashley Valley. Among the recent announcements has been an App that will make using local trails even easier. The STRAVA running and cycling App can be used to navigate routes for walking, biking, running, hiking or any kind of challenge.

Fishing with the Fox Adding Adventure to Family Fun Time

Fish are being caught, tags are being turned in, and prizes are being doled out. Fishing with the Fox and the Division of Wildlife Resources are incentivizing family fishing this summer. Over 400 fish have been tagged in Pelican Lake alone while over a hundred more are tagged in Moose Pond and the lower Stillwater Pier Pond.

Fatal Motorcycle Crash on SR-35

Excessive speed is being investigated as a contributing factor in a fatal motorcycle crash on SR-35 between Kamas and Tabiona on Sunday. According to Utah Highway Patrol, a husband and wife were traveling westbound on separate motorcycles at approximately 4:00pm.

Summer Day Trips Underway

Today is the first day for summer day trips through Uintah County Travel and Tourism. Every Wednesday through July 26th a new adventure is available starting today with the trip to Fantasy Canyon. Next Wednesday is to the Jones Hole Fish Hatchery.

Vernal Excitement Kicks Off Thursday

Another year of Vernal Excitement kicks off Thursday with an evening of free entertainment and activities at the park in front of the Uintah County Library. The season of Thursday night activities will launch with a talent show for ages 21 and under.

Sheriff’s Office Urges Seatbelt Usage

The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office is urging all travelers to wear seatbelts. Memorial Day weekend is among the busiest travel weekends of the year and kicks off the annual vacation season. “We are participating in the statewide Click It or Ticket campaign and want to stress the importance of wearing our seatbelts always.
