Excessive speed is being investigated as a contributing factor in a fatal motorcycle crash on SR-35 between Kamas and Tabiona on Sunday. According to Utah Highway Patrol, a husband and wife were traveling westbound on separate motorcycles at approximately 4:00pm. “Witnesses reported both motorcycles were traveling at a very high rate of speed. The female, identified as 47-year-old Claire Benson of Pleasant Grove, failed to negotiate a turn to the right and crossed over into the oncoming travel lane and struck a 2016 Dodge truck head on.” Benson was wearing protective gear and a helmet at the time of the crash but died on impact. The 2012 Ducati motorcycle burst into flames and SR-35 was shut down for approximately one hour before one lane was opened for intermittent travel in both directions. The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries from the airbag but did not need medical transport.
