Sheriff’s Office Urges Seatbelt Usage

The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office is urging all travelers to wear seatbelts. Memorial Day weekend is among the busiest travel weekends of the year and kicks off the annual vacation season. “We are participating in the statewide Click It or Ticket campaign and want to stress the importance of wearing our seatbelts always. This doesn’t just mean when traveling a ‘long way’,” shares the Sheriff’s Office, “it means ALWAYS.” Seatbelt usage in Utah for 2016 showed that an average of 87.9 percent of motor vehicle occupants in Utah are using seat belts, an increase since the primary seat belt law was implemented in 2015. The survey found that more people use seatbelts while traveling on highways compared to local roads. The study also showed that passengers wear seatbelts more often than drivers and that rural counties, including those in the Basin, utilize seatbelts far less than in urban areas of Utah. The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office would like to see this change, emphasizing, “When we go to the store, go to church, or run to a friends house, wear your seatbelt. It very well may save your life or someone you love.”
