Fishing with the Fox Adding Adventure to Family Fun Time

Fish are being caught, tags are being turned in, and prizes are being doled out. Fishing with the Fox and the Division of Wildlife Resources are incentivizing family fishing this summer. Over 400 fish have been tagged in Pelican Lake alone while over a hundred more are tagged in Moose Pond and the lower Stillwater Pier Pond. The timing for the promotion is perfect as fishing limits have been liberalized on Pelican Lake as the DWR prepares for a rotenone treatment this fall. According to DWR Regional Aquatics Manager Trina Hedrick, in 2008 and 2009 an influx of carp moved into the lake and have taken over the fishery. This presents serious feeding problems to the native fish in the lake including bluegill that are sight feeders and the murky water is causing starvation among their population. Pelican Lake is nationally known as a blue ribbon fishery but it has recently been placed on the probation list due to the carp invasion. Get out and do some fishing to win prizes. Fishing with The Fox runs through August 17th.
