A brush fire has burned over 900 acres between Jensen and the Utah-Colorado border as of Tuesday night. The closest structures to the fire are located in Jensen but none were considered in danger. The fire has, however, affected travel on Highway 40. According to UDOT, the fire has affected the roadway in both directions on Highway 40 at Mile Post 166 about 6 miles east of Jensen. Highway 40 was closed for a period of time but one lane reopened for traffic on Tuesday evening. Multiple agencies and engines are assisting on the fire. The fire’s cause is still under investigation. The wet spring has created a build up of dry fuels in some areas creating cause for concern this summer. Two fires occurred near Rifle as well in the last few days due to the dry conditions.
