KNEU 1250Smoky conditions can be expected in the Uintah Basin due to wildfires throughout the state. The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office reports that the Fruitland Shed Fire was human-caused though details of how it began continue to be investigated.
The Hospitality Committee in Uintah County is recognizing the faces of customer service in local businesses. The new Dino “Soar” customer service award recipient is Valentina Cireech, CEO of Ute Tribe Enterprises.
In March of this year, the Ute Indian Tribe filed two federal complaints against the United States for the, quote, “mismanagement of the Tribe’s Uncompahgre Reservation lands.” The cases, Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation v. United States of America, seeks “quiet title to the lands” and “significant monetary relief to compensate the Tribe for the United States’ sale and use of its…lands.”
Audits of Tuesday’s Primary Elections are being held today. In Uintah County, the Primary Election audit is being held at 9am in the Clerk-Auditor’s Office and in Duchesne County the audit is being held at 3pm in the County Conference Room.
A mutual aid agreement between fire departments was completed just in time to help on a fire in the Manila landfill on Wednesday. The agreement between the Manila Fire Department and Sweetwater County Fire Department in Wyoming had been in the works for over a year and was just finalized last week.
Uintah Basin Healthcare takes golfing for a cause to a whole other level. Their annual golf classic was held on Friday, June 1st at the Roosevelt Golf Course a total of around 300 people participating. Brody’s Fund, a charity established in 2013 under Uintah Basin Medical Center’s 501C-3, is the recipient of the fundraiser each year.

Structures have been lost in a fire two miles east of Fruitland today. The Uintah Basin Interagency Fire Center says the fire was called in today at 3:24pm. Duchesne County Fire representative Mike Erickson says the Fruitland Shed Fire is an estimated 8 to 10 acres and two structures are confirmed a total loss.
Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo is just weeks away and a crowd favorite event that kicked off in 2017 is coming back. The Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo can be traced back to 1932 when it was known as the Blue Mountain Rodeo. The next year it was called the Uintah Basin Rodeo and hosted 65 events. By the 4th year it had yet another name as the Vernal Rodeo and it’s popularity continued to grow.
The 50th Annual Ute Tribe Pow-Wow Celebration is underway today in Fort Duchesne. The four day event is a favorite tradition for many locals as well as visitors that travel from outside the area.
