A mutual aid agreement between fire departments was completed just in time to help on a fire in the Manila landfill on Wednesday. The agreement between the Manila Fire Department and Sweetwater County Fire Department in Wyoming had been in the works for over a year and was just finalized last week.
Wednesday night at 5:30pm
, the Manila Fire Department requested the assistance of the Sweetwater County Fire Department as well as engine support from Green River and Granger to assist on a fire at the landfill. The fire departments worked into the early morning hours of Thursday before heading home, leaving the Manila Fire Department to finish out operations. The cause of the fire is unknown. Thankfully it was contained to an area of about half an acre of landfill waste about 15 feet deep. “It is quite an undertaking when dealing with an out of state entity,” shares Sweetwater County Fire Warden Mike Bournazian. “I’m very happy that we’re able to accomplish that agreement to provide each fire department assets if, and when, available. This is a great example of the spirit of the fire service in our efforts to support each other in the times of need.”
