Crews Continue Containment Efforts of Double Wildfire East of Myton

Tuesday was a good day for containment on the double wildfire located about a mile east of Myton. The North River Fire started Sunday, March 28th and the East Myton Fire was called in on the afternoon of March 29th. Heavy winds on Monday pushed both fires away from the city of Myton but still within an area with homes, ranches, and infrastructure.

Cockett has formed a working group that will create a framework for future university land acknowledgement statements that will recognize and respect Native American peoples as the original stewards of USU land,” shares the USU announcement.

Burn Window Opens; All Urged to Make Safety Top Priority

It's the time of year for yard cleaning and that means open burning. Uintah County’s spring burn window is March 30th through May 30th. No burn permit is required but Dispatch MUST be notified of the burn at 435-789-4222. Vernal, Naples, and Ballard City have the same burn window but each DO require a permit to burn and Dispatch must be notified.

Vernal City is promoting the State’s Rent Relief program and wants locals to utilize this help that is available. The State has millions to assist renters to catch up on rent payments, shares Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion. The Emergency Rental Assistance program can help renters who are unable to pay their rent and utilities due to circumstances related to COVID-19.

Vernal Utah Temple Moving to Next Phase of Reopening April 26

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued a press release on Monday announcing status changes of their temples including an upcoming shift for the Vernal Utah Temple. The Vernal Utah Temple is among a list of 22 temples (20 in the United States, 1 in Canada, and 1 in Bolivia) that will move to Phase 2-B on April 26th.
