A Craig man has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for distribution of methamphetamine. 51-year-old Melvin Newton was arrested on separate occasions in Routt and Moffat County in possession of methamphetamine.

Governor’s Office of Energy Development Promoting Uintah Basin Natural Gas

The Utah Governor’s Office of Energy Development is part of an effort aimed at promoting natural gas in northeastern Utah and western Colorado. With support from Colorado and Utah agencies, Colorado Mesa University is working on a report that explores the combined potential of natural gas in western Colorado and northeastern Utah’s Uintah Basin.

County Unemployment Numbers Tick in the Right Direction

The Department of Workforce Services has released the latest unemployment numbers and local Counties continue to tick in the right direction. Daggett County is now at 4.4 percent unemployment, down from 4.5 percent. Duchesne County is also at 4.4 percent, down from 4.6 percent the month before. Uintah County ticked down to 4.8 percent unemployment from 4.9 percent.

Safe UT Smartphone APP a Tool for Safe Schools

A tool available to schools in the state of Utah and used locally is the Safe UT smartphone app. Safe UT is linked to statewide services in real-time crisis intervention. Youth can text or send confidential tips right through the app on their smartphone and be connected with a crisis line at all times. Licensed clinicians respond to all chats, texts and calls, providing counseling, suicide prevention, and referral services.

Uintah County’s Plan to Remove Street Lights Progressing

The Uintah County Commission reviewed plans to remove lights from the street configuration on Aggie Blvd and Main Street during Monday’s Commission meeting. In November, Uintah County approved a plan to remove 80 lights from their property and have been working with Rocky Mountain Power to finalize plans in the months since.

Roosevelt City State Street Construction Starts Up Again

After a break for the winter, the Roosevelt City State Street construction project is starting up again. Work began on Monday, March 26th. Contractor Burdick Materials reports that crews will begin prepping for curb and gutter and paving between 800 South and the gulch.
