Education Summit Serves Local Educators

The annual Education Summit was a success this weekend at the Uintah Conference Center. In its 3rd year, the event is offered through the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with local school districts and provides free licensing credits to local educators.

Uintah Athletes of the Week

The Uintah Athletes of the Week are track team members Kyle Henderson and McKenna Sprouse, nominated by the coaching staff. Kyle Henderson has been consistently one of the top jumpers in the state. He won the triple jump at the indoor olympic oval as well as winning the opening meet in the Long Jump. Kyle is ranked 2nd in the High Jump and 3rd in the Long Jump for 4A. He has worked hard this season and has been a good example of hard work and focus for his team mates. Congratulations Kyle Henderson, Ute Athlete of the Week! McKenna Sprouse is one of the senior leaders on the girls track team. She is starting the season off well, qualifying for the BYU Invitational at the Alpha Invitational. McKenna is always checking on the other girls and giving positive comments. She has had a really good attitude through the hard workout and bad weather so far this season. Congratulations McKenna Sprouse, Ute Athlete of the Week!

High School Intern Recognized for Dedication

The dedication of a high school intern at Ashley Regional Medical Center is appreciated and being recognized. Uintah High School’s Marisa Foote is in her fourth trimester interning in the Radiology Department of Ashley Regional Medical Center. Director of Radiology Jeff Hanberg has been very impressed with Marisa and has appreciated her work-ethic and willingness to learn.

Bid Open on Terminal Renovation Project

Renovation of the terminal at Vernal Regional Airport will soon be underway. According to airport manager Doug Brown, bids are being accepted on the terminal renovation project until April 3rd with a mandatory pre-bid due Tuesday, March 27th by 11:00am.

Uintah County Sheriff’s Office Holds Annual Awards Banquet

The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office held their annual awards banquet last week. Randy Harding was awarded Citizen of the Year for his heroic efforts that helped save several lives. The Sheriff’s Award was given to Chase Hall and Travis Mold. Patrol Deputy of the Year is Kyle Fuller. Corrections Deputy of the Year is Tyler Conley.

DWR Big Game Permit Proposals

It’s possible hunters will have a better chance at drawing a permit to hunt big game this fall, depending on the unit applied for. Division of Wildlife Resources biologists are recommending a permit increase for buck deer, buck pronghorn, bull moose, and Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep. As of March 19th, all the big game permit recommendations from the Division of Wildlife Resources should be available.

WIC Hosting First Annual Healthy Easter Egg Hunt

An upcoming Easter activity is health department approved. TriCounty Health’s Women, Infants and Children program, also known as WIC, is adding a twist to the traditional Easter egg hunt by holding its first annual Healthy Easter Egg Hunt next week for kids ages 5 and under.

Boutique Air Given Appreciation Award

Boutique Air Given Appreciation Award

While Vernal has only been a temporary stop for them, Boutique Airlines is being recognized for providing much needed air service to the Vernal area during a time of limbo. The Vernal Area Chamber’s Public Relations Committee has presented Boutique Airlines with an Appreciation Award for their service of providing daily flights to and from Denver and Salt Lake City for the past two years.
