KNEU 1250It’s no surprise that TriCounty Health Department is a huge supporter of childhood vaccinations. What some people may not know is that adult vaccinations are also recommended. TriCounty Health shares that all adults need a Td or Tdap vaccine every 10 years or sooner if you are injured.
Vernal City Police have turned to social media to ask the public for help. First, the police department shared a picture of a red stolen motorcycle and ask anyone with information to contact the police department. Second, the police department shared images of a person they are trying to identify.
The wild pheasant populations are lower than in past years but hunters have no reason to worry. The Division of Wildlife Resources has announced that they will be releasing more than 10,000 pheasants between 61 sites around the state during the general pheasant hunt that runs from November 3rd through December 2nd.
The Uintah School District has responded to a new claim in the ‘Did You Know?’ paid advertisement in the newspaper that the school board violated the Open Meetings Act. According to the Uintah School District, the claim is false. “On May 9th, 2018, the school board voted 5-0 to approve construction projects at Uintah High School, including an overhaul of the school’s baseball and softball fields,” shares the district.
The Business Committee of the Ute Indian Tribe welcomed a Colorado land owner to a reception last week at the National Congress of American Indians to thank him for a donation of land he made in Southern Colorado. According to the news release, Rich Snyder reached out to the Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation, explaining that the Ute Indian Tribe’s historic presence on the land overwhelmed him and he considered it a very sacred place.
The Division of Wildlife Resources is making proposals for new big game hunts in 2019 including new hunts in the Book Cliffs of eastern Utah. The DWR reports that big game animals are doing well in Utah and in certain areas of the state, they are doing extremely well. Among the proposals to help manage the populations is to give hunters more chances to hunt with some new hunts in 2019.
An event called ‘Community Matters’ is being hosted on November 7th from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at the Union High School. The purpose of this event is to bring awareness and prevention on topics such as mental health, suicide, bullying, the negative effects of social media, how technology affects our brain, underage drinking, E-Cigarettes, vaping, juuling, and similar issues.
The Uintah Youth Conservation Corps was recently recognized by the Intermountain Region USDA Forest Service at the 2018 Regional Forester Award Ceremony to highlight the success of the program. “The Uintah Youth Conservation Corps program is designed to provide environmental education through hands-on learning experiences on the Ashley National Forest while working on projects that benefit the Forest and its ecosystems,” shares Ashley National Forest Affairs Officer Louis Haynes.
Come and support Uintah County Search and Rescue by roping some steer. The 3rd Annual Benefit Roping event will be held November 3rd at the Western Park Indoor Arena. The event has been very beneficial to Uintah County Search and Rescue in that it has helped them purchase new equipment as well as update others, shares event coordinator and Rescue Commander Shad Shelley.
Tourism is an ever growing contributor to the local economy and that extends beyond the peak tourism months. Tourism season runs into the fall and wraps up with Utah’s Fall Break every October. “Fall brought a great number of visitors to the area and held steady numbers compared to 2017,” shares Uintah County Travel and Tourism Director Lesha Coltharp.
Little ghosts, goblins, superheroes, and princesses will be swarming neighborhoods throughout the Basin today and all should make safety their top priority. Drivers should remain cautious and aware that some children may be difficult to see. Parents should teach their children safety rules for traveling on sidewalks and crossing streets.
A two vehicle accident in Vernal resulted in injuries Monday before noon. According to a Vernal City Police news release, officers responded to a reported injury accident at 100 West Main Street on October 29th. “Investigation revealed that an eastbound red Chevrolet truck occupied by a single driver failed to stop at the signal resulting in a collision with a northbound white Toyota passenger car.
