KNEU 1250It is a well known fact that the Uintah Basin is suffering from the opioid crisis that is sweeping the United States. Utah Attorney General Sean D. Reyes and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development are partnering to help address the rise of opioid misuse in Utah’s rural areas including northeastern Utah.
Roosevelt City issued a press release on Monday reassuring residents that Roosevelt City water is safe for consumption. Many Roosevelt residents have noticed a change in the taste and smell of their tap water in recent weeks. Roosevelt City is aware of the change, shares their announcement, and wants to reassure residents that the water is free from any contaminants.
The Uintah County Attorney’s Office issued a press release Monday joining local law enforcement and the community in expressing their condolences to the family of Cal Dee Reynolds, the stabbing victim of a home invasion in September who passed away on Saturday. The press release also shared that last Wednesday afternoon, Vernal City Police presented the Attorney’s Office with the case relating to the assaults perpetrated on the Reynolds family to review for charging. “The tragic intervening circumstance of Mr. Reynold’s passing has necessitated additional work and investigation, including consultation with the Medical Examiner’s office,” shares the Attorney’s Office. “A suspect in this case is in custody. However, as of today there is no time frame as to when charges will be filed. The Uintah County Attorney’s Office has a team of attorneys working diligently with law enforcement and other appropriate professionals and expect to file charges once we have thoroughly reviewed all the investigation and information. Once that charging decision is made,” shares the Attorney’s Office, “additional information will be provided to the public.”
The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office may get a little scruffy looking this month but it is for a good cause. The Sheriff’s Office kicked off ‘No Shave November’ last week as part of an effort to raise money for Keeping Love in Communities (KLiC).
Local artist Deena Millecam is the featured artist through the month of November at the Uintah County Library. Deena grew up on a fruit farm in Payson and it was there that her work ethic was formed. After she graduated from Utah State with a Bachelor of Education in Fine Arts she moved to the Uintah Basin and taught at Vernal Junior High.
A large scale search for a missing Rock Springs hunter was unsuccessful on Saturday. 74-year-old Terry Meador was reported missing on October 25th when he failed to return from a solo hunting trip. His unoccupied vehicle was found badly stuck north of the summit of Pine Mountain and searches of the area began on October 26th.
The victim of a stabbing that took place in a Vernal home on September 13th has passed away. Vernal Police issued a news release over the weekend, offering their condolences and stating that stabbing victim Cal Dee Reynolds passed away in Salt Lake City on November 3rd.
Canadian based company Encana Corporation announced its acquisition of Newfield Exploration Company on Thursday. According to yesterday’s press release, the companies have a definitive agreement where Encana will acquire all of the outstanding shares of common stock of Newfield in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $5.5 billion dollars.
Daggett County Commissioners have provided the public with an update on happenings in their county. “The County is still embroiled in the lawsuit with Dutch John,” shares Commissioners.
Thanks to a massive collaboration effort of volunteers, sponsors and a community eager to be spooked for a great cause, the Hotel Vernal Haunt was a fantastic success raising over $58,000 dollars for local charities. “The Hotel Vernal opened for guests again in October 2018 after a 27 year vacancy [and] the charity event far exceeded expectations,” shares Vernal City Manager and event coordinator Quinn Bennion.
The Uintah Transportation Special Service District Board of Directors terminated the employment contract of Executive Director Adam Massey during their meeting on Thursday evening. Board member Kevin Van Tassell made the motion to terminate Massey’s employment agreement which was unanimously approved by the board. Van Tassell read a statement during his motion explaining that the District is exercising their rights in section 7.4 of Massey’s employment agreement that states the termination can be made without cause.
It’s no surprise that TriCounty Health Department is a huge supporter of childhood vaccinations. What some people may not know is that adult vaccinations are also recommended. TriCounty Health shares that all adults need a Td or Tdap vaccine every 10 years or sooner if you are injured.
