KNEU 1250For those excited about the prospect of a new library in Roosevelt the opportunity to see the proposed plan is coming up! A public hearing is scheduled for next Thursday at the Crossroads Senior Center and the proposed library design will be on display. In recent years, the Roosevelt branch library has exceeded state benchmarks with their stats growing in circulation, frequency of events, attendance, and visits to the library.
The Vernal and Roosevelt Rotary Clubs recently combined forces for a very worthy cause, providing grow boxes for the Vernal Food Pantry, and issued the following press release on the project’s success: “The Roosevelt Club proposed the joint project with Vernal’s Club. Vernal provided the funding for the materials needed and the Roosevelt Club constructed the beautiful grow boxes which are made of wood and corrugated metal.
Dinosaur National Monument offered their thanks on Sunday to a man who has spent nearly the last 2 decades as the eyes and ears of Dinosaur National Monument’s highest peak. “After 16 seasons as the Fire Lookout at the Zenobia Fire Tower, Daniel Hazen is stepping down from his position as the resident eyes and ears of Dinosaur National Monument's highest peak,” shares Dinosaur National Monument.
A 37-year-old man is dead and one man is in custody after a traffic accident on Friday that took place south of Fort Duchesne. “At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Friday, deputies and BIA officers were dispatched to an accident at 7500 East 5700 South where a truck was stuck on the side of the road,” shares the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office.
Murals are popping up all over Vernal transforming the town into a selfie hot spot and it could be said the pandemic deserves a little of the credit. Jordan Clark is a Vernal native that has been painting for years as a hobby. He found he was using bigger and bigger canvases and when someone reached out to him about painting a mural he fell in love with the format.

The annual Lose Yourself Fun Run will be held on Saturday, September 26th. Those still wanting to participate can register at the maze on race-day.
The National Interscholastic Cycling Association high school race is this weekend in Vernal and it’s likely you’ll make note even if you don’t make it up to Buckskin Hills to cheer the mountain bike racers on. Hotels and restaurants will be bustling with over 1200 registered riders and 3,000 to 4,000 total visitors to the area expected for the weekend.

U.S. District Court issued another decision and order this week in the case between Veronica Wopsock versus Duchesne County Sheriff’s Deputy Derek Dalton and other parties. The lawsuit was filed in 2012 with Wopsock claiming that Deputy Dalton sexually assaulted her during a traffic stop on September 4th, 2011.
A Duchesne County Sheriff’s Captain has been recognized for his role in the creation and implementation of the statewide correctional standards. “Over the past two years, Captain Jeremy Curry has been working with the Utah Department of Corrections, the State of Utah and the Utah Sheriffs Association creating unified jail standards for all facilities housing offenders,” shares Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office.
