Murals are popping up all over Vernal transforming the town into a selfie hot spot and it could be said the pandemic deserves a little of the credit. Jordan Clark is a Vernal native that has been painting for years as a hobby. He found he was using bigger and bigger canvases and when someone reached out to him about painting a mural he fell in love with the format. Painting murals was something he enjoyed working into his life but it wasn’t until, thanks to the Coronavirus, he was furloughed last spring from his full-time job for a second time that he went all in. “The unemployment wasn’t enough to live off so I started putting all my efforts into my murals and it’s just been snowballing,” shares Jordan. “So for the last 2 months I’ve been working full time on murals and have recently had 2 other artists working for me to help get as many projects as I can done before winter. So far I’ve got a list of 16 and it grows almost daily.” So where exactly are these murals? The most recent massive work of art located at Morts Carwash happens to be his new favorite and one that he recruited help for. “When Morts reached out he wanted it to be an icon for the valley so I took his ideas and teamed up with Tonya Merrell to take all these great things to put it into one mural that shows what Dinaland is all about!” explains Jordan. “We also made sure to create a great photo point for anyone to get a great pic of a 3D Dino about to eat them!” Other recent projects by Jordan Clark of Ninty1 Designs include a multitude of American flags painted on the sides of businesses around town; work inside local establishments like a dino pizza party at Four Brothers and glow in the dark murals at Black Light Ignite; bringing to life the new location for Basin Flood and Fire; and the massive and colorful geometric ‘This Is Vernal’ selfie background in the Elks Lodge parking lot. Jordan has said he greatly appreciates all the positive support from the community and loves seeing the Vernal pride and patriotism on social media when selfies include the #Ninty1Designs hashtag. Regardless, what a fun new way to share Vernal with the world through the simple act of posting a picture.
