KNEU 1250The subject of energy is a center piece to the economy and life in the Uintah Basin. As such, it is important to keep on top of the updates and insights that are in the industry. To aid in that endeavor the 2019 Uintah Basin Energy Summit is underway hosted by Uintah County Economic Development. The summit will talk about these updates, as well as current projects (including the rail), regulations and policies, and the outlooks moving forward.
For those residents that enjoy heading out to the country for a drive, especially along the Yellowstone Canyon Road (also called Forest Service Road 119), be sure to come up with alternative routes. Ashley National Forest will be replacing the bridge in Yellowstone Canyon due to its age and condition. Yellowstone Canyon Road will be closed at the Bridge Campground on the southwest side of the bridge and on the main road north.

One woman was killed in a 7-vehicle accident in Fort Duchesne on Highway 40 Tuesday afternoon shortly after 1:00pm. According to Utah Highway Patrol, six vehicles were stopped in the eastbound lane of Highway 40 directly in front of Ute Petroleum in Fort Duchesne near mile marker 121.5 as a blue Toyota Tundra approached.
It’s hard if not impossible to know all the long term effects that social media is having on lives, especially on young lives that equate what they see on screens as reality. Recognizing the need, the Uintah School District is doing their part to fight social media’s influence on teen mental health by hosting a free informational night for parents at the Vernal Middle School Auditorium on September 10th at 6pm.

Around 84 million or more than 1 in 3 American adults have prediabetes and 90 percent of those do not know they are prediabetic and at risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
Utah Division of Wildlife Resources wants the public to be aware of changes the Wildlife Board has approved for cougar and bobcat permits. The current management plan was established in 2015 and is set to expire in 2025. It was determined that because cougar populations are meeting the established guidelines that an increase in the number of permits this 2019-2020 season were proposed and approved.

Uintah School District is eager to educate the public about a Resolution that will be on the November 5th ballot that supporters are calling a win-win proposal. If approved by voters, the Uintah School Board “will lower its capital levy by more than what the voted local levy generates for the school district for at least the next three years.” The District shared Monday that the tax impact would actually mean an approximate $24 dollar decrease in taxes in Uintah County annually on a home valued at approximately $192,000 dollars and a decrease of approximately $44 dollars annually on commercial and secondary homes.

The mother of the toddler boy who died in a house fire on Christmas Eve in Craig has entered a plea of Not Guilty. According to a report from the Craig Daily Press, 26-year-old Vanessa Jenkins was arrested on April 3rd on the charge of Child Abuse Negligently Causing Death.
