One woman was killed in a 7-vehicle accident in Fort Duchesne on Highway 40 Tuesday afternoon shortly after 1:00pm. According to Utah Highway Patrol, six vehicles were stopped in the eastbound lane of Highway 40 directly in front of Ute Petroleum in Fort Duchesne near mile marker 121.5 as a blue Toyota Tundra approached. The Tundra was “traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed, not seeing the stationary line of vehicles,” reports UHP. “The pickup truck drove into the back of the line of cars, causing each to collide into each other. The rear-most stationary vehicle, which was a red Chevrolet Canyon pickup, was hit first by the [blue] pickup. The female driver of the Canyon [pickup] received fatal injuries.” There were no passengers in the blue or red pickup. Three people were taken to the hospital, one of which was the driver of the blue pickup. Other injuries are unknown but believed to be non-life threatening. Highway 40 was closed until 11:00pm Tuesday night. Our condolences to those mourning and suffering as a result of this accident.
