The subject of energy is a center piece to the economy and life in the Uintah Basin. As such, it is important to keep on top of the updates and insights that are in the industry. To aid in that endeavor the 2019 Uintah Basin Energy Summit is underway hosted by Uintah County Economic Development. The summit will talk about these updates, as well as current projects (including the rail), regulations and policies, and the outlooks moving forward. This year, the keynote speaker is Mike Williams, the real life hero of the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill which was made into a 2016 movie starring Mark Wahlberg. In 2010, an offshore rig in the Gulf of Mexico exploded causing a fireball that was seen 40 miles away. The disaster took lives, sank the drilling rig and led to the largest oil spill in U.S. waters. In all this chaos Mike worked to try to fix the situation and save lives. “He has great insight and has a great story to tell,” shares Energy Summit coordinator Sylvia Wilkins. Wilkins has been planning the Energy Summit for many years and says the event as a whole is all about thanking the energy industry and for all to pull together and work together. The Summit will be all day today from 8am to 5pm. It is $50 dollars and is being held at the Uintah Conference Center.
