A public service that has helped thousands get back on their feet will no longer be available in Uintah County. Uintah County issued a press release on the topic Monday. “After careful consideration of the current economic, regulatory and health conditions that exist within the State and the County, the Uintah Commission has decided to close down the Turning Point Shelter,” shares Monday’s press release.
Obviously, unemployment statistics are much higher than they were a year ago but the latest report shows that it is at least heading in the right direction, even in northeastern Utah. A year ago, unemployment in Daggett County was 3.8 percent. Upon latest report, it is now at 4.3 percent, which is down 3/10th of a percent from the month before.
Maeser Elementary has been excited to find success in a special program being utilized by teachers and staff. “Second Step is a social-emotional learning program designed to help students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn,” shares Dr. David Aldrich of Maeser Elementary Support Services.
The Food Pantry has a 6 year plan for a community garden to help grow product for the pantry customers. In a presentation to the Vernal Chamber of Commerce, Kim Lamb, the Community Services Director for Uintah Basin Association of Governments, recently shared the progress of that plan.
Strong opinions continue to flow on social media in regards to the topic of masks in school with many locals pointing to Governor Herbert’s monthly news conference last week in what they feel supports their argument that masks should not be used in schools. A reporter asked Herbert if with cases at record highs in primarily Utah County if he was looking at any stricter statewide measures.
For those excited about the prospect of a new library in Roosevelt the opportunity to see the proposed plan is coming up! A public hearing is scheduled for next Thursday at the Crossroads Senior Center and the proposed library design will be on display. In recent years, the Roosevelt branch library has exceeded state benchmarks with their stats growing in circulation, frequency of events, attendance, and visits to the library.
The Vernal and Roosevelt Rotary Clubs recently combined forces for a very worthy cause, providing grow boxes for the Vernal Food Pantry, and issued the following press release on the project’s success: “The Roosevelt Club proposed the joint project with Vernal’s Club. Vernal provided the funding for the materials needed and the Roosevelt Club constructed the beautiful grow boxes which are made of wood and corrugated metal.
