The Food Pantry and Community Gardens

The Food Pantry has a 6 year plan for a community garden to help grow product for the pantry customers. In a presentation to the Vernal Chamber of Commerce, Kim Lamb, the Community Services Director for Uintah Basin Association of Governments, recently shared the progress of that plan. Three years ago the first garden was built at the Roosevelt Food Pantry. It was a community effort as several oil & gas companies, foster grandparents and many volunteers were able to produce 30lbs of food that first year. This year a garden was grown at the Vernal Pantry with the help of the Vernal & Roosevelt Rotary Clubs and other volunteers. It is the goal of the Food Pantry to have a garden at each of their pantries. If any individuals would like to help in any way at the Food Pantries, contact the Uintah Basin Association of Governments at 435-722-4518.
