A Vernal man is facing charges after allegedly stabbing his roommate over rent money. 27-year-old Cody James Aaron Evans has been charged in 8th District Court with 2nd Degree Felony Aggravated Assault and Class B Misdemeanor Assault.
Among the first in the State to resume jury trials, 8th District Court in Duchesne County went through the jury selection process on Wednesday in the murder trial of the State of Utah vs Kristy Lee Whitchurch. 39-year-old Whitchurch was “arrested on November 13th, 2018 after a witness came forward and told investigators Whitchurch was directly involved in the April 6th, 2018 assault that resulted in the death of 51-year-old Sherry Lynn Melo.”

The East Fork Fire is still moderately burning. It has burned over 69,000 acres to date and is about 72% contained. Recently, the crews were able to establish hose lays along the Petty Mountain Loop Road and were able to contain all the spot fires near Hells Canyon.
