Steinaker Reservoir Reopens to the Public

Steinaker State Park shared some great news on Wednesday that has many locals excited. As of today, June 27th, the reservoir has reopened to the public. “The water level has risen to the point we can allow boats back on the water at Steinaker!” shares Steinaker officials

‘North 40 Fire’ Starts Wednesday Evening in Fort Duchesne

A fire north of Highway 40 in Fort Duchesne posed a threat to structures on Wednesday evening. According to the Uintah Basin Interagency Fire Center, the ‘North 40 Fire’ started at approximately 5:45pm. Roosevelt Fire and Lapoint/Tridell Fire responded and had assistance from the State of Utah, Bureau of Land Management, and Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Uintah County Officials Show Support for Jordan Cove LNG Project

A proposed natural gas export terminal project out of state has the support of local officials as it could benefit the Uintah Basin natural gas industry. The Jordan Cove Project is a proposed Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) export terminal that would be located in Coos County, Oregon. The proposed site is in a Bay approximately 7 miles from the entrance of a federally controlled and maintained navigational channel used for international trade.

Uintah County and Vernal City have begun work on the Vernal Regional Airport Master Plan and the first of five public meetings is approaching. The meeting announcement explains that an Airport Master Plan is a comprehensive study to determine development plans to meet future and unmet aviation demand in the short-, medium-, and long-term.

The Uintah Basin Association of Governments is welcoming more applications for the Weatherization Assistance Program. “The Weatherization Assistance Program is getting some extra funding starting in July and so we welcome new applications,” shares program coordinator Jeannie Powell. The program helps low-income individuals and families reduce energy costs.

Strawberry Valley Construction Update for Highway 40; Expect Delays

Construction is ongoing on Highway 40 for the Strawberry Valley construction project and pilot car operations have begun. UDOT wants the public to know that as early as Tuesday, June 25th, there will be a two-lane configuration between Mile Post 48 and 52 as well as ongoing shoulder work from Mile Post 40 to 45.
