‘North 40 Fire’ Starts Wednesday Evening in Fort Duchesne

A fire north of Highway 40 in Fort Duchesne posed a threat to structures on Wednesday evening. According to the Uintah Basin Interagency Fire Center, the ‘North 40 Fire’ started at approximately 5:45pm. Roosevelt Fire and Lapoint/Tridell Fire responded and had assistance from the State of Utah, Bureau of Land Management, and Bureau of Indian Affairs. “The fire is burning in grass, brush, and russian olives just north and west of the Cemetery,” shared the Fire Center. “Highway 40 was not closed but there was some smoke impact to traffic. Structures were threatened when the fire started but good progress was made and the threat lessened.” The ‘North 40 Fire’ was initially reported at 5 acres and at about 9:00 pm on Wednesday was estimated to have grown to 15 acres. The cause is currently under investigation.
