Young UBCA Spellers Represent Well at Colorado Bee
A group of young spellers from the Uintah Basin Christian Academy represented well at the ACSI District Spelling Bee in Lakewood, Colorado in January. Twelve students from the Christian Academy competed in a pool of ten schools. All the students did an excellent job but two of the spellers stood out for their accomplishments.
Man In Jail After GoPro Cameras Found in Public Restrooms/Changing Rooms
The multiplying cases of voyeurism one man is facing is 16 and counting. 28-year-old Ryan M. Flaten was arrested on November 17th after a GoPro video camera was found in a public restroom in a Maverick Country Store in Lyman, Wyoming. He was charged with Voyeurism in that case.
Maeser Fire Substation Called a Win-Win-Win
The Maeser Fire Substation is proving its worth to the community as was discussed during Monday’s Uintah County Commission meeting. The need for a fire substation in Maeser had been discussed for years in order to better serve the residents that live there and the Uintah County Commission approved the remaining $150,000 dollars needed for the substation in 2016 after the project was in limbo.
Duchesne County Jail Inmate Conceals Drugs Inside Body, Shares With Inmates
A trio of Duchesne County Jail inmates are facing drug charges after testing positive for opiates and methamphetamine. According to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, jail staff were informed on January 9th that Vicky Di Anne Christensen had given drugs to fellow inmates in her housing unit. All the inmates in that unit were given drug tests and Christensen tested positive for opiates while Stormi Don Blue and Chelsea Lynn Lenhart both tested positive for opiates and methamphetamine.
Swim Teams Represent Well at Region Meets
The Uintah Swim Team had a fantastic weekend in the pool at their region meet. Overall the team had 42 personal best times and set 5 new school records. Girls took 2nd overall and boys took 6th overall.
Burbot Bash Attracts 166 Teams, Awards Over $29,000 in Prizes
Competitive anglers of all ages flocked to Flaming Gorge over the weekend for the annual Burbot Bash and the event did not disappoint. The event hosted 166 teams made up of 525 anglers and there was a grand total of 2,236 burbot bashed. Burbot are illegally stocked in Flaming Gorge and are having a devastating effect on the fishery there thus prompting the annual fishing derby to rid the waters of as many burbot as possible.
Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo Gives 2017 Review
Presenters at the Uintah County Commission meeting provided a clear snapshot of how 2017 panned out for the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo. The event brought in 501 professional contestants including 23 world champions and 62 of the 120 NFR qualifiers.
Accident on Emma Park Road Provides Important Winter Travel Reminder
A car accident on a secluded road could easily have turned deadly on Friday. A 61-year-old Spanish Fork woman had just crossed out of Duchesne County and into Utah County while driving on Emma Park Road when she was unable to negotiate a curve on the snow covered road.
Changes in Senate District 26 Race; Crane and Snow Withdraw
Utah State Senate District 26 includes Daggett, Duchesne, Uintah, Summit, and Wasatch Counties. While four of the six candidates that have declared their intent to gather signatures in District 26 come from Uintah and Duchesne Counties, that number has now dropped to two.
