Maeser Fire Substation Called a Win-Win-Win

The Maeser Fire Substation is proving its worth to the community as was discussed during Monday’s Uintah County Commission meeting. The need for a fire substation in Maeser had been discussed for years in order to better serve the residents that live there and the Uintah County Commission approved the remaining $150,000 dollars needed for the substation in 2016 after the project was in limbo. The Community Impact Board awarded $239,000 dollars in grant funding for the project. The project is simply a win-win-win for all involved, shared Commissioner Bill Stringer during Monday’s meeting, emphasizing that if residents don’t know if they qualify for reduced insurance rates, now is a good time to find out. It’s estimated around 800 families in the Maeser/Dry Fork area now qualify for improved insurance rates having a fire station within 5 miles of their home. Uintah County Fire Marshal Jeremy Raymond commented that it isn’t just a savings to insurance costs, the substation is also a savings of physical property. “We’re finding that the fire trucks are there 6 to 8 minutes before the Vernal trucks can get there which is a significant savings on property,” shares Raymond. The Merkley family was also thanked for donating the land for the substation.
