Uintah Hope Squad Releases “You Are Enough” Video

School based peer to peer suicide prevention programs are making a difference in many communities. In fact, Hope Squads around the state and nation are doing their part to uplift and educate communities and one of our local groups has shared a video aimed at just that. The Uintah High School Hope Squad released a 2 minute video last week titled “You Are Enough”. Directed by Donovan Anderson and written by Kenadi Colton and Jackie Colton, the video says in part: “Even though many of us experience the feelings of sadness, anxiety, and depression, we are here.

Last Day to Change Party Affiliation for Presidential Primary Election in March

The Presidential Primary will be held on March 3rd, 2020. Only registered Republicans will receive a Republican Ballot. Registered Democrats and Unaffiliated voters will receive a Democratic Ballot. All other voters registered with any other party will not receive a ballot for this election. Today is the last day to change your current party affiliation. All active registered voters will be mailed their official Ballot between February 11th and February 20th. Visit or contact your County Clerk’s Office for more information and if you need to change your party affiliation today.

Women’s Day Out This Weekend

A Basin tradition is here again and will not disappoint this weekend. Joe and Teddy Evans hatched the idea for Women’s Day Out 19 years ago hoping to provide something fun for locals during the down time of winter and during a month when not a lot is going on in the Uintah Basin. All these years later, the event continues to grow and don’t let the name fool you, all are invited including men, many who come each year as the best place to find the right Valentine’s present for their sweetheart.

Disney Theme For Uintah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra Concert This Saturday

In a first for the organization, the youth members of the Uintah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra were allowed to choose the theme for their next concert and what do you think they chose? Disney of course! The kids have worked hard and are excited to present their Disney themed concert on February 1st, shares Executive Director Brad Vanfleet. He admits, however, it was tricky finding orchestra music that was a good fit for the group as Disney options were limited. Still, Vanfleet is happy for the experience and invites the public to come enjoy an evening of beautiful, fun music put on by these talented youth.

DWR Reminds Those That Gather Sheds to Take Ethics Course

Collecting antlers that fall to the ground, or sheds, is a very popular hobby in the Uintah Basin. Some families have even made it a family tradition which the Division of Wildlife Resources highly encourages. That being said, the DWR wants to remind all that if you want to look for sheds anytime between February 1st and April 15th you need to take the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Antler Gathering Ethics course. The reason is this is a very tough time of year for deer, elk, and moose and it’s important for people to minimize their impact on the animals.

Sweetwater County Travel and Tourism Has Plans for Flaming Gorge

What does Copenhagen, Denmark, The Dead Sea, Galway, Ireland and Wyoming have in common? In a recent article from CNN Travel all of these are some of the 20 places to visit in 2020. Some of the reasons that Wyoming was listed include Grand Teton, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, and our very own Flaming Gorge. This is exciting as Sweetwater County Travel and Tourism recently released their annual report which is a reflection of the direct advertising efforts of their board.

Uintah Basin Medical Center Earns EPA ENERGY STAR Certification

Uintah Basin Healthcare scored a perfect 100 on their Energy Star certification for the Uintah Basin Medical Center. By earning the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR® certification, UBMC is continuing a legacy of energy efficiency and savings. The certification verifies that the building performs in the top 25 percent of buildings across the nation. On average such certified buildings use 35 percent less energy, cause 35 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions, and are less expensive to operate.

Ashley Regional Sleep Specialist Reminds All of the Importance of Good Sleep

Ashley Regional Medical Center wants all to know the importance of good sleep. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that a third of U.S. adults get less than the recommended amount of sleep. According to Shelly Sorenesen, the sleep specialist with Ashley Regional Medical Center, “many people don’t connect the dots between the quality of their sleep and the quality of their overall health. Most adults need at least seven to eight hours of sleep each night to maintain good health.”

Uintah County May Become the First 2nd Amendment Sanctuary County in Utah

Uintah County is exploring the possibility of becoming a Second Amendment sanctuary county. During the Monday Commission meeting, Chief Deputy Attorney Jonathan Stearmer explained that Commissioner Bart Haslem approached him about the idea several weeks ago and Monday started the deliberation of the draft ordinance on the subject. Uintah County Sheriff Steve Labrum expressed his support, sharing that, as a gun advocate, he believes it is the right thing to be forward thinking and maintain this right within Uintah County.

Colorado Parks & Wildlife on Confirmed Wolfpack Sighting in Northwest Colorado

Colorado Parks & Wildlife officials have confirmed that a group of wolves are now residing in northwest Colorado. Wildlife officers discovered large wolf-like tracks surrounding an animal carcass in the northwest corner of Moffat County on January 19th. While attempting to locate the wolves, the wildlife officers heard distinct howls and using binoculars were able to see approximately 6 wolves about 2 miles from where the carcass was located.
