KNEU 1250There are many fantastic leaders and civil servants in the Uintah Basin community and UBTech is accepting nominations for a special award. The UBTech Way Award is a special recognition award for an individual in the community who is a civil servant.
Donations are needed as the Sub For Seniors program gets ready to deliver Christmas cheer to 400 local elderly residents. The Sub For Seniors program in Uintah County started in 2015, delivering Christmas gift bags to 92 local seniors. By 2017 that number had doubled and by 2020 it had more than tripled to a record 350 local seniors in need.
It was a record breaking night at the Trees For Charity Auction Gala held at the Uintah Conference Center. Monday’s Auction Gala finished the night at a total of $310,300 dollars in donations. To put that in perspective, the 2020 event raised an amazing $210,000 dollars at the Auction Gala and in 2019 the total on the night of the Auction Gala was $233,300 dollars which became the record to beat.
An event intended to unite generations will have representatives from the Uintah Basin present. The Uintah School District shared on Monday that the Uintah High School Marching Band and Uintah High School Orchestra will perform in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Hawaii on December 7th to help commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
The Ute Tribe is among 7 tribes from 7 states to sign preservation agreements with the National Park Service in 2021. According to the NPS announcement, the Tribal Historic Preservation agreement assists Indian tribes in strengthening their historic preservation programs managed through Tribal Historic Preservation Offices (THPO) on tribal lands.
Ashley National Forest makes public involvement a priority, including their current process involving their Forest Plan Revision. The Forest Plan Revision Draft Environmental Statement (DEIS) was recently released and the 90 day comment period is now open and will run until February 17th.
Angel trees will be popping up around the community as Santa’s Community Effort gets underway. The Rotary Club of Vernal set this season’s first tree up at the Uintah Conference Center last week in time for the Trees For Charity tree view and Auction Gala.
The HEAT program has been a valuable tool for many Uintah Basin residents in need of financial help to keep utilities paid and homes warm and with the cold season now underway the state has announced something new for the program.
It was another successful year for the Vernal Community Holly Days. Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion shares that thousands of locals and visitors were in attendance.
The clock is ticking and the pressure is on as the talented Moon family of Jensen put the finishing touches on their epic gingerbread display for the public. Each year, Roosevelt Library Director Stephen Moon and his family choose a book or literary theme to create an all gingerbread display destined for the Roosevelt Branch Library during the Christmas season.
Public comment is welcomed as Ashley National Forest works to revise the management plan and environmental assessment for the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. “The current Flaming Gorge National Recreation Management Plan is outdated and needs to be updated to address changes in use and increased use by visitors,” shares the forest’s announcement.
November 30th is National Giving Day, a day that is considered a worldwide celebration of generosity in supporting communities and causes. Hoping to help local students, UBTech has set a goal to raise $30,000 dollars for scholarships and are inviting all who feel inclined to please donate to their cause.
