The Utah Department of Workforce Services reports that June’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is estimated at 3.6%, down a tenth of a percentage point from its level in May.

False alerts sent around the state caused some scrambling and alarm on Sunday evening. Parts of Uintah County were among the areas where Emergency Evacuation text notifications were issued by mistake a little before 5pm.
Man Reported Unconscious Under Vehicle Arrested For Drugs
A call to dispatch for help was issued on Sunday in Vernal after a man was seen lying unconscious under a vehicle. Officers arrived and found the man on the ground underneath a pickup truck near the driver side door which was open at the time.
Union High School Shares Electronics Policy For Upcoming School Year
A new Utah law prohibits cellphones and other electronics during school hours and Union High School has shared their policy moving into the new school year.
Employment Update- August of 2026
The Utah Department of Workforce Services reports that Utah’s nonfarm payroll employment for June 2026 increased an estimated 1.5% across the past 12 months, with the state’s economy adding a cumulative 26,300 jobs since June 2025.

Back-to-School Safety Reminder
It’s back to school time and Vernal City Police Chief Gledhill says it’s time to make safety the top priority for all on the road. “We want to make sure we are starting the school year off safe,” shares Chief Gledhill. “We are going to be enforcing crosswalk laws and speeds in school zones to make sure everyone arrives at school safely.” All are urged to slow down, pay attention, and watch for kids walking or riding to and from school starting next week.
