The annual ‘Fishing with the Fox’ event culminated in prize drawings during the Alive After 5 finale at the Uintah County Library park last week. ‘Fishing with the Fox’ is a partnership between Evans Family Media’s 98.5 The Fox and the Utah Division of Natural Resources that aims to promote fishing on local lakes and reservoirs. Big Sand Wash, Spirit Lake, and East Park were each stocked with tagged fish. This year, ‘Fishing with the Fox’ had 133 tags caught and registered and there was a great turnout for the prize drawing on August 6th. Out of 550 tags released, 45 came out of Big Sand Wash, 76 out of East Park, and 12 out of Spirit Lake. “Everybody I talked to in the field this year was really excited to be out on the mountain targeting tagged fish,” shares DWR representative Anthony Christianson. “Some families make this an every weekend event all summer long and have done so for the last few years. As far as DWR, we get fishing data from the participants who caught a fish and register it. We use this data to assess our stocking rates and angler satisfaction at various water bodies in the region.” William Millett walked away the big winner with the oversized check for $3,500 thanks to the Wildlife Conservation Foundation. Many other participants won prizes in the event’s normal drawings courtesy of Basin Sports.
