A fire in a remote area of the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation continues to grow. The Bear Trap Fire was first reported on July 21st located on a ridge just north of Bear Trap Knoll west of Big Springs on the reservation.

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Data Confirms Utah’s Leading Employment Status
The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics released new data, confirming that Utah continues to lead the nation in job growth and with a strong economy. The new data is based on the June 2018 employment numbers. In total job growth, Utah is number 1 at 3.3 percent, followed by Idaho with 3 percent and Nevada at 2.9 percent.
Vernal City Inviting Further Public Input on Potential Vacation of 400 West
A second public hearing has been scheduled as Vernal City officials consider vacating 400 West next to the LDS Temple. City officials initiated the discussion and possible action to vacate 400 West as a way to reduce street maintenance costs and to increase pedestrian safety.
Two Casts of Local Kids Performing Annie Jr. This Week at Vernal Theatre: LIVE
Another successful first is likely right around the corner for Vernal Theatre: LIVE with the four day run of Annie Jr. opening Wednesday, August 1st. Auditions were held on July 9th and the response was so overwhelming, theater owner and show director Nashelle Jackson decided to do a double cast and add two additional showings in order to give as many local kids the experience as possible.
More Rescues on Flaming Gorge Over the Weekend
It’s been a busy few days for the marine rescue unit on Flaming Gorge with more incidents to handle since helping nine stranded Boy Scouts and their leaders to safety on Thursday night. On Sunday, the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office lake patrol boat responded to a distress call coming from the Anvil Draw area of Flaming Gorge at about 4:00pm. According to the Sheriff’s Office, they discovered a Green River man who said he had been boating with four children and four adults.
DWR: Sign Up For Hunter Education Now
The Division of Wildlife Resources has a message for those interested in taking the state’s Hunter Education course. First, there is still time to sign up but don’t wait too long because classes fill up fast in the fall. If you want to be on the field on September 1st, taking the course online may be the way to go in order to complete it faster.

Duchesne and Uintah County Among Recipients of Office of Outdoor Recreation Grants
Duchesne and Uintah County are among the lucky recipients of newly announced grant money through the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation. The Governor’s Office of Economic Development announced the awards on Friday stating that the $4 million dollars in grant funding will create an estimated $32.7 million dollar impact statewide.
BAER Specialists Release Dollar Ridge Fire Soil Burn Severity Map
Burned Area Emergency Response(BAER) specialists have released their data and field work on the Dollar Ridge Fire burn area as well as the Soil Burn Severity map. “The map shows that in the fire area, approximately 69 percent of the 59,897 acres analyzed by the BAER team within the Dollar Ridge Fire is considered unburned or low soil burn severity while 28 percent sustained a moderate soil burn severity, and only 3 percent burned at a high soil burn severity,” shares Ashley National Forest.
Boy Scouts Stranded on Flaming Gorge Rescued by Marine Unit
A group of Boy Scouts and their leaders found themselves in a dangerous situation and in need of help Thursday night on Flaming Gorge. According to the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, a party of nine scouts and three adults from Saratoga Springs were on a rafting trip that started Thursday morning on the Green River in the Jamestown area with a plan to raft down and onto Flaming Gorge and then south to Big Firehole where they would join other members of their party.
