It’s been a busy few days for the marine rescue unit on Flaming Gorge with more incidents to handle since helping nine stranded Boy Scouts and their leaders to safety on Thursday night. On Sunday, the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office lake patrol boat responded to a distress call coming from the Anvil Draw area of Flaming Gorge at about 4:00pm. According to the Sheriff’s Office, they discovered a Green River man who said he had been boating with four children and four adults. The four children went into the water to swim but began to drift away which was when he discovered that he was unable to restart the boat all while a wind pushed the boat to the east bank where it was grounded. An unidentified boater picked up all four children, who were unharmed, and towed the disabled boat across the lake to the west side, shares Sheriff Mike Lowell. After meeting with the man, the deputies began to make their way back to Buckboard Marina when they spotted a capsized paddleboat. Deputies were able to help the two men clinging to the capsized boat, transporting them and their paddleboat into Buckboard. The men said they had been hit with heavy wind and waves and that they had been hanging onto the paddleboat for about two hours. Neither was wearing a life jacket. Thankfully no injuries were reported as a result of any of the mishaps on Flaming Gorge on Sunday.
