Body Found Deceased in Uintah County

A case is still under investigation after a body was found in Uintah County. According to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, a man in his late thirties was found deceased Wednesday morning near a house on 1500 West 1800 South. The body was found by a resident that lives in the area. “The man has only lived in the Vernal area for a short time,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “At this point in the investigation, nothing appears suspicious and the man may have suffered a fatal medical event.” The name of the deceased man has not been released as family is notified. The Sheriff’s Office says the case is still under investigation.

Gas Prices Continue to Go Up; Utah Among Highest in Nation

Gas prices continue to go up hitting Basin residents in the pocket book where it hurts the most. On Wednesday night, several gas stations in the area hit the $3.00 a gallon mark pushing prices among the highest in the nation. According to the latest report from AAA, Wednesday’s national average gas price was $2.73 and Utah’s average was $2.99.

Professional Basketball Player to Work with Uintah Girls Basketball

Uintah coaches have secured extra help to work with the girls basketball team this summer. Coach Kristy Putnam shares that Ashlee Trebilcock will be coming to teach at a 2-day camp on May 30th and 31st at the high school. Playing for Ohio State, Trebilcock has won four Big Ten Conference Championships, two Big Ten Tournament Championships and four NCAA tournament appearances including a trip to the Sweet 16.

“Parker’s Bill” Signed by Governor Herbert

A labor of love aimed at preventing prescription opioid-induced deaths is gaining traction. Governor Gary Herbert signed a Resolution on Tuesday nicknamed by supporters as “Parker’s Bill”. The Resolution is nicknamed after Parker Stewart, a 21-year-old Vernal man who passed away unexpectedly in his sleep just days after a tonsillectomy that he was recovering from just fine in December 2016.

The Uintah School District Classified Employee of the Year is Jane Guffey. Mrs. Guffey has been with the Uintah School District for 30 years as a full-time bus driver. She has served on the district’s Sick Leave Bank and Personnel Policy Committees and currently chairs the Transportation Accident Review Committee.

Conceal Carry Teacher Training Receives Donation from Safari Club Banquet

The Safari Club International Northeastern Utah Chapter held their annual banquet fundraiser on April 7th and a Uintah County Sheriff’s Office cause was among the beneficiaries of the night. Following the February shooting at a Florida high school, Sheriff Vance Norton began developing a plan to provide concealed weapon classes for all the teachers and staff at local schools including extensive training for those wanting to become more proficient with the use of their firearm.

Sponsors Drop Fluoride Initiative in Uintah County

Fluoridation of water in Uintah County has been a hot topic of debate over the last month and one that has come to an end. According to Uintah County Clerk/Auditor Mike Wilkins, the sponsors of the initiative emailed Wilkins informing him that they had discontinued gathering signatures and would not be turning in their packet.
