There are over 40 inspection stations located at various waterbodies and along highways throughout Utah including in the Uintah Basin. During the 2020 Pioneer Day weekend, 19,094 quagga mussels inspections were performed statewide, and 453 boats were decontaminated.

Drought is certainly a concern but visitors to the forest must also remember the possibility of flooding and landslides caused by rainfall. Ashley National Forest experienced multiple landslides last week over the evening of July 22nd when landslides “impacted infrastructure within the Rock Creek and Lake Fork drainages of Ashley National Forest.
The Utah Department of Transportation provided an update on work underway on Highway 40: Starting July 26th, UDOT will be resurfacing Main Street in Vernal from 700 West to 500 East. This work will include painting, installing road messages and is expected to take up to four weeks to complete.
Duchesne County School District Superintendent David Brotherson provided an update on COVID-19 protocols for the upcoming school year. The COVID-19 vaccination is considered a personal choice and will not be required.
