KNEU 1250While there have been media reports of possible settlements in the works, the most recent information from the ACLU of Utah on their lawsuit over Daggett County inmate abuse is that the case is being allowed to proceed. A press release from ACLU Utah issued earlier this year states that motions to dismiss the lawsuit were refused by U.S. District Court Judge Dale Kimball allowing the case to proceed to the discovery phase.
The Utah Department of Workforce Services has launched another year of a grant program that could benefit Uintah Basin industry and workforce. According to the DWS announcement on Tuesday, the department has allocated $1 million dollars for grants this year in the Talent Ready Utah program. “The purpose of Talent Ready Utah is to build the state’s workforce, ” shares Tami Pyfer, the Governor’s Office education advisor.
While further details of the investigation have not been released, Vernal PD confirms that the man confronted by a group of teens while “engaged in lewd conduct involving a child” has died. According to Vernal PD, an incident took place on March 20th at 1300 West Main Street. Vernal PD’s investigation determined “that the adult male had been engaging in lewd conduct involving a child, and that he was confronted by several teenagers.
The Division of Wildlife Resources is seeking information on a poaching incident that took place in February in Uintah County. According to the DWR news release, conservation offices were dispatched to a location east of Jensen where two buck pronghorn had been killed and left to waste.
Uintah County is working to amend their employee ‘alcohol and drug free workplace’ policy taking into account the Utah medical marijuana law change. During the Uintah County Commission meeting on Monday, amendments to Policy 520 were discussed.

This year the theater is presenting the musical comedy The Pirates of Penzance which will be directed by an Outlaw Trail newcomer with a nostalgic connection to the show. “I’m so excited to participate with the Outlaw Trail Theater production of The Pirates of Penzance,” shares Jen Curtis, this year’s director.
The Union High Drama Department has proven they are a force to be reckoned with. Last November, the department’s presentation of Newsies had audience members coming back for a second and third time. It was the first drama production in the new Union High School’s state-of-the-art auditorium and it was a match for the impressive venue.
The Utah Department of Workforce Services released the latest unemployment numbers by Utah counties. Daggett County shifted up slightly from 4.7 to 4.8 percent.
The 2019 UDOT construction list has projects planned for Daggett, Uintah, and Duchesne County. Daggett County work includes crews removing and replacing 10 miles of asphalt on SR-43 and a Dutch John chip seal project on US-191. In Duchesne County, UDOT will install erosion control measures to redirect the flow of the Duchesne River away from SR-35 at MP 54.
With hardly enough time for the ink to dry, a lawsuit has been filed over the Green River Water Rights Exchange contract between the Bureau of Reclamation and the state of Utah. A team of environmental groups oppose the contract which will allow for an exchange of Green River water rights for water to be released from Flaming Gorge Dam.
