The efforts of the American Red Cross are definitely not a mystery to the general public. They hold about 500 blood drives every day. Part of the effort is because less than 38 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to give blood or platelets while 6.8 million people are in need of blood in the United States alone.

Uintah Fire District Awarded Grant From CIB

In a press release issued Friday, the Uintah Fire District announced that they have received a grant that will enable the district to get three new fire trucks. The Fire District presented the project to the Community Impact Board last week in hopes of replacing outdated fire trucks throughout Uintah County. CIB Board Member Dean Baker made a motion to approve the project with 100 percent grant and Senator Ron Winterton seconded the motion.

EPA Grant to Target Air Quality in the Uinta Basin and Salt Lake City

The EPA announced this week that they have awarded a $9.7 million dollar grant to the Utah Department of Environmental Quality to improve air quality in two parts of the state: the Uinta Basin and Salt Lake City. “Utah DEQ has demonstrated consistent leadership in working with local interests to make progress on air quality challenges and enhance public health,” shares EPA Regional Administrator Gregory Sopkin.

Vernal City Police Warn of Disturbing New Scam

While most people are used to recognizing and shutting down phone scammers, a new scam is capable of rattling even the most hardened of call takers. Vernal Police shared on Thursday that there is a new scam area residents need to be aware of. “Calls are being made to citizens from a phone number coming from Mexico, and in the initial phase of the phone call a girl can be heard crying,” explains Vernal PD.
