KNEU 1250The Uintah/Daggett Children’s Justice Center wants to remind the Basin that October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We might not think it but domestic violence does exist in our community. You might know a survivor or you might be one yourself.
Getting outside and moving can make a big difference for the health of our children. Especially if they can get in the habit early in their life. To help encourage the kids Uintah Basin Healthcare partnered with Centennial Elementary to have a Move-a-thon. The Move-a-thon is a healthy fundraiser that helps get kids moving by collecting pledges for each 30 minutes they completed during September 27th through October 6th.

It was an incredible official opening weekend for the Hotel Vernal Haunt and the group already has something to celebrate thanks to a special guest at Friday’s haunt. Uintah County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release over the weekend reporting that deputies responded to an incident on Saturday when a report of a reckless driver around the Gusher area was received at about 3:30pm. The vehicle in question happened to match the description of a vehicle that was involved in an incident with a Utah Highway Patrol trooper during a traffic stop earlier.
The Ashley National Forest conducted more prescribed burns over the weekend. The Duchesne Ranger District focused on burning near East Reservation Ridge on Saturday and Sunday.
This weekend Vernal is the place to be for some old fashioned softball fun, mixed with some Halloween spirit. The 2nd annual Scared Hitless Charity Softball tournament will host a men’s and a co-ed competition. Event organizers Lynett Piep and her son Kacey say it has taken community help to get this tournament ready, mentioning Vernal Mayor Doug Hammond, Commissioner Bart Haslem, Uintah Recreation District, and businesses like Extreme Wireline for all their help.

U.S. District Court Judge Tena Campbell issued a Memorandum of Decision and Order this week in the federal case of Rose Vallejo on behalf of her minor child versus Duchesne County Sgt. Carl Reilley, former Sheriff David Boren, and Duchesne County. On April 14th, 2017, Sgt. Reilley placed on the ground and handcuffed a 13-year-old autistic boy that had been peering into the windows of the library.
Uintah High School is working on a special new display that will debut on Veterans Day next month and they need the community’s help. “Uintah High School wants to honor all military personnel who have graduated from Uintah High School, regardless of when they graduated,” shares Student Council Advisor Janalee Watkins.
