Monday’s ribbon cutting for the community bench project in Vernal was a celebration of the community led initiative and those that made it happen. What started with one person seeing a need for benches at BTA bus stops, culminated in many businesses and people joining together to make it happen. Those recognized on Monday included Bobby Oostveen who initiated the project and put countless hours in to see it through; Kyle Bentley who donated 5 benches, his time, and his shop to make the benches; Chad Whitmire who assisted in the installation of benches; Members of the Marathon Petroleum/Andeavor team who donated time and materials to assist with pouring 9 of the concrete pads; Zane and Kyle from Crossfire who volunteered time and materials as well; and Dalton Gardner who completed 4 concrete pads for his Eagle Scout project. Sponsors of the project were the Rotary Club, Mountain America Credit Union, Wendy’s, Hank’s Electric, Safari Club, Tri-County Health, Ashley Regional, the Uintah Recreation District, and Mayor Hammond, Quinn Bennion, and Clint Morton with Vernal City.
