KNEU 1250The TriCounty area COVID-19 Transmission Index has seen a change this week with Uintah County moving from High to Moderate Transmission level while Duchesne County remains at Moderate level and Daggett County remains at Low level.
Uintah County is kicking off the holiday weekend in style Friday night by blocking off downtown Vernal and hosting a massive Independence Day Block Party complete with a full-scale patriotic concert. The stage will be set up right on Vernal Avenue and Highway 40 making it something that has never been done before to this extent.
Wednesday was a very special night at the Outlaw Trail production of ‘Hello, Dolly!’. Not only was lead Joel Benedicto back on his feet and delivering an energetic performance just days after an emergency surgery, it was also a night heralded as Legacy Night.
TriCounty Health Department continues to encourage community members to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and are finding ways to share local data for the community’s consideration. On Wednesday, TriCounty Health distributed a chart representing COVID-19 numbers in relation to the TriCounty area.
Crews continue work on the Oil Springs Fire south of Rangely in Rio Blanco County. As of the June 30th report, County Roads 113, 116 and BLM road 1045 are still closed and all are asked to use caution when driving along Highway 139.
The Freestone Walking Park is a breathtaking sight as the Patriotic Field of Flags is now on display. This is the second year for the field of flags as part of the Dinosaurland Freedom Fest. “The flag field includes over 600 flags that remind us of our country and freedoms,” shares Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion.
An all abilities playground is under construction this week at the Naples City Park and those involved and the many people who donated to the fundraising for ‘Westyn’s Vision’ couldn’t be more excited. Westyn Hacking is an energetic three-year-old who loves to get out and play with his siblings.
Vernal City is not banning fireworks and City administration took time on Tuesday to clarify the topic. “Vernal City has received several questions regarding whether or not Vernal City is allowing individual fireworks this year,” shared Vernal City.

The annual Uintah Basin Medical Center Golf Classic raised money for a great cause earlier this month. The press release shared that the tournament is a fundraiser for Brody’s Fund, named after Brendon and Tiffany Crozier’s angel baby, Brody.
The Division of Wildlife Resources is getting the word out. If you didn't draw a buck deer or bull elk permit during the hunt drawing earlier this year — and you're still interested in hunting deer or elk this fall — your chance to obtain a permit begins next week but make note: the sales dates for the permits have changed from past years.
The Department of Workforce Services has provided an update on unemployment in the state of Utah and the data shows a small shift down in the Uintah Basin. Daggett County stayed the same at 3.5 percent unemployment.
