The spontaneous explorer is forgetting one thing however: Mother Nature is still working on conditions in the mountains and upper elevations.
Collaboration is the key as Uintah County, canal companies, and other parties move forward to form solutions for the Ashley Valley Flood Control plan. An engineering study presented last fall by Sunrise Engineering has provided options and framework for the groups with the study concluding that the biggest current threat to the areas outside Vernal and Naples is from water coming in from outside the valley including Ashley Creek, Yellow Hills and Asphalt Ridge.
Thanks to record high snow melt, releases at Flaming Gorge dam have increased to power plant capacity and are expected to remain at current levels through April and May. March has been warm and dry throughout the Upper Colorado River Basin, except for the Upper Green River.

Graduates of the Uintah County Sheriff’s Citizen Academy were celebrated last week after completing their 12 week course. “We were excited to have them graduated and we will start another class in May,” shares Sheriff Vance Norton.
The Island Park and Rainbow Park roads within Dinosaur National Monument will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time. Engineers from the Federal Highway Administration assessed the extent of the damage on the roads caused by flooding this winter and found that no immediate fix could allow for the reopening of the road.
