Safety Tips for Explorers with Spring Fever

With snow melted in the valleys and days with above seasonal temperatures, it may be natural to catch a case of spring fever and head to the mountain looking for adventure. The spontaneous explorer is forgetting one thing however: Mother Nature is still working on conditions in the mountains and upper elevations. According to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, a lot of people with spring fever are heading to the hills to explore and get themselves stuck in the process. “It is still wet and muddy up there and many vehicles are not equipped for the conditions. Vehicles need to be equipped for mountain roads and dirt roads and even then there are still roads that are impassible due to mud, snow, or a combination of both,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. The expense to get the vehicles removed remains the owner’s responsibility and the cost can get expensive really fast. It’s also important for outdoorsmen to recognize that ice is melting off bodies of water. The water is cold and unstable and people need to pay attention to stay off areas that are compromised. “These are just some of the things where people need to be reminded to not tempt mother nature,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “She will win every time.”
