Uinta Basin Railway Status and Potential Timeline Discussed in Radio Interview
Pam Juliano, Executive Director of Government Affairs for Rio Grande Pacific Railroad, visited the KVEL studio this week with Vernal Chamber Director Joel Brown to discuss the latest on the Uinta Basin Railway project. The Surface Transportation Board’s Final EIS for the project was released on August 6th and entered a 30 day no action period.
Red Fleet State Park Expansion and Remodel Update
Plans continue to move forward for a major expansion and remodel project at Red Fleet State Park funded by $7.5 million dollars from the Utah Legislature. Park Manager Amanda White shares that so far most meetings have been virtual but the first part of September all the administrators and designers will meet at Red Fleet for a physical walk through.

The COVID-19 Transmission Index update reports Duchesne County and Uintah County at the High Transmission Index Level and Daggett County at the Low Level. According to Thursday’s press release, there has been to date 5,556 total COVID-19 cases in the TriCounty area and there are currently 384 active cases.

DWR Proposing Changes to Trail Camera and Other Technology Use
The Division of Wildlife Resources is making proposals in fulfillment of 2021 legislation concerning the use of trail cameras in hunting. HB 295 instructed the Utah Wildlife Board to make rules to govern the use of trail cameras and as a result the DWR surveyed 6000 hunters to get their feedback.
