Through the Trial Hunting Program you can accompany a licensed hunter who is 21 or older on their hunting experience.

DWR Continues Push to Prevent Spread of Quagga Mussels

The push continues to prevent the spread of Quagga Mussels in the state of Utah. Over Pioneer Day weekend, law enforcement officers, biologists and other officials stopped and inspected thousands of boats at checkpoints in the state of Utah, including at checkpoints in and around the Uintah Basin. A total of 5,892 boats were inspected and citations were issued.

Just as consistent as school starting again in the fall, the BackPack Project is getting ready to help the community. Duchesne County Chamber of Commerce reports that that they have received the donated backpacks. Now it is time to fill them! Community members are asked that while buying school supplies for their own children or grandchildren, purchase a few extra items and donate them to the BackPack Project.

USU Uintah Basin is welcoming new faculty members as the fall semester approaches. According to a press release issued Tuesday, Tabitha Cutright will be an instructor in the Department of Nursing and Cameron Cuch will be a lecturer in the Marketing, Strategy, Leadership, and Entrepreneurship Department at the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business.

Updated Unemployment Numbers for Uintah, Duchesne, Daggett Counties

It’s a mixed bag with the new unemployment numbers supplied by the Department of Workforce Services on a monthly basis. While Daggett County has struggled the most this year, June unemployment actually decreased from 4.5 to 4.2 percent. Duchesne County saw a slight tick up from 4.4 to 4.5 percent unemployment.

Any person born after December 31, 1965 is obligated to complete the state-offered hunter education class. There are two ways to take the course. The first is to attend the instructor-led course that is held in a classroom.

The Golden Age Center is celebrating 50 years of serving the Vernal area with festivities taking place today. The Golden Age Center was recently named the Government Business of the Year by the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce and it was discovered that the Center has been serving the Basin for half a century, a milestone worth celebrating.

Mile Marker 9 Fire Burning South of Highway 40 on West End of Moffat County

A fire that started Sunday afternoon is contained in Moffat County, 9 miles from the Utah/Colorado border. According to BLM Public Information Officer David Boyd, the Mile Marker 9 Fire is all on private land on the south side of Highway 40 burning in grass and brush. It was reported at 4pm on July 28th and crews have contained it to 90 acres.
