While construction has been ongoing on Roosevelt’s State Street, the entire project will not be done before the cold weather puts the breaks on construction. According to contractor Burdick Materials, it was anticipated that the stormwater pipe construction project would be wrapped up before the cold set in but “delays and scheduling issues have made that goal impossible.”

A man wanted by law enforcement for failing to register as a sex offender has been apprehended. The public’s help was requested in September by Vernal City Police in their search for 30-year-old Jason Durbin. Although convicted, Durbin had repeatedly failed to register as a sex offender.
It was a packed house at the Uintah County Commission meeting on Monday with many county employees attending as proposed changes to health benefits were considered. Uintah County Director of Human Resources Joe McKea presented the proposed changes. To date, the county has paid 95 percent of the insurance premium while employees paid 5 percent. The proposed change would increase the employee portion to 15 percent for those who do not participate in a county wellness program. “The world is going this direction,” explained McKea. “Think about car insurance…more accidents means higher rates. It’s kind of the same with health insurance as well so we are building in a wellness component to the health benefits.” County employees asked clarifying questions about the proposal and the percent breakdowns. The new wellness requirements include an annual physical, blood work, survey, and certain health commitments such as abstaining from tobacco use. The County Commissioners approved the proposed changes plus a survey to compare benefits to other entities to be used as a reference during budgeting in 2018.
Biologists from the Division of Wildlife Resources are recommending new and innovative approaches for the 2018 general rifle buck deer hunt that are aimed at reducing crowding during the hunt. All the changes being recommended are a result of biologists listening to hunters, shares DWR big game coordinator Covy Jones.

A case of illegal sales of hunting licenses on Ute Tribal land by an unrecognized tribe is gathering national attention. An article released Friday by Law360, a publication out of New York, highlights the case.
