KNEU 1250The cold weather is a season that has family and friends spending more times indoors. The TriCounty Health Department is reminding people to stay diligent in being aware of Carbon Monoxide. Carbon Monoxide is often referred to as the invisible killer because it is an invisible, odorless, colorless gas. This gas is created when fuels (such as gasoline, wood, coal, natural gas, propane, oil, and methane) burn incompletely.
As the prices of crude oil continues to drop, creating the lowest prices in just over a year, the situation for oil producers in the Uintah Basin isn’t good. The Utah Small Business Development Center released drilling statistics that highlight the struggle. Oil sent to Salt Lake for refinement have their oil discounted to the point that it is just below break even in pricing.
Uintah High has had a tradition for the last 23 years to raise money for charities. ‘Chuck Your Change’ week includes student activities to raise money such as paying to throw a pie at a teacher, a balloon war contest, locking the student body president in a glass case for donations and so much more. This year the school decided to raise money for two charities, Special Olympics and to help a local boy named Boone.
The ‘2018 Municipal Project of the Year’ from the Utah Construction and Design Magazine was awarded to Roosevelt City and Civco Engineering. The award was a result of the efforts given for the State Street project that was completed in September 2018. The project came about because a large portion of the stormwater drainage runs along State Street.
One suspect was killed in an officer involved shooting in Rangely on Monday. A press release from the 9th Judicial District Critical Incident Team states that on the evening of December 10th, officers with Rangely Police Department and deputies with Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office were investigating a report of a stolen vehicle in Rangely. Upon locating the vehicle in Rangely city limits and attempting to apprehend the suspects, shots were fired. “One of the suspects was shot. He was later declared deceased,” shares the release. “No Officers or Deputies were injured during the incident.” The shooting is being investigated by the 9th Judicial District Critical Incident Team, a multi-jurisdictional team of investigators brought in when law enforcement officers are involved in a shooting. The lead investigating agency is the Colorado Bureau of Investigation in conjunction with the 9th Judicial District Attorney.
The Vernal Regional Airport is thanking the community for their continued support as they near their goal of 10,000 departing passengers in 2018. As of Tuesday, the count was at 9,676 and if they reach the goal, they become eligible for a million dollar federal grant and an upgrade to a primary airport.
Fishermen and hunters take note. The Utah Wildlife Board met on November 29th in Salt Lake City and have approved several new hunts that affect the Uintah Basin as well as made changes to fishing regulations at Flaming Gorge Reservoir. There will be bison hunts on the Henry Mountains in southeastern Utah and the Book Cliffs in eastern Utah.

The program is called Mango Languages and it provides a self-paced learning format that teaches languages through dialogue using the four key components — vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and culture — for improving proficiency in another language through practical, real-life conversation.
The former Moffat County teacher and coach on trial for felony Child Sexual Exploitation was acquitted on all charges on Monday, a verdict that upset many in the courtroom. Reports in the Craig Daily Press provided coverage throughout the trial, including the following information: The fact that Justin Folley sent sexually explicit text messages over a period of time to the victim in this case, who was 14 years old at the time, was not in question.
It is strange to think about now but only two weeks ago members of Dinosaur National Monument and members of the National Park Service’s Exotic Plant Management Team were headed down the Green River on an expedition. Their goal? Believe it or not, it was to find, remove and treat the invasive non-native Russian olive trees along the Green River.
In a year of downturn, Uintah County was able to add 236 nonfarm jobs in the second quarter of 2018. According to the Utah Department of Workforce Services, despite the down trend of oil and gas jobs, a significant number of jobs were added in leisure/hospitality and trade/transport/utilities services.
