The BIA Forestry & Wildland Fire-Uintah & Ouray Agency provided an update on the ‘North 40 Fire’ that started at 5:45pm on Wednesday north of Highway 40 near Fort Duchesne/Bottle Hollow. “In all, 8.5 acres were consumed on Ute Indian Tribe and Private Lands,” shares their update. “No injuries occurred and no structures were lost. The fire was determined to be human-caused and is still under investigation.” As of Thursday night, the fire was “80 percent contained and resources will continue to work the fire throughout the next few days until it is out. We urge the public to be extremely careful with any fire outdoors as the wet winter has produced thick and tall grasses that are starting to dry and become flammable.” Roosevelt Fire and Lapoint/Tridell Fire responded and had assistance from the State of Utah, Bureau of Land Management, and Bureau of Indian Affairs. “The fire is burning in grass, brush, and russian olives.
