Emergency vehicles responded to a fire at the Ouray turnoff on Highway 40 on Friday where a parked vehicle was found fully engulfed in flames. Utah Highway Patrol reports that the incident took place at 7:43am and the vehicle on fire was a Ford Ranger. The cause of the fire is unknown but the Ranger was a total loss and a nearby vehicle sustained some damage from the fire. Roosevelt citizen Mike Stengel was driving by on Highway 40 when he saw the fire and called 9-1-1. He and another individual that also stopped approached the vehicle to see if there was an occupant inside. “We didn’t see fire in the cab so I broke a window attempting to see if there was an occupant,” shared Stengel. “Upon doing so I observed the entire cab of the truck was consumed with black smoke. We couldn’t tell if anyone was in the truck, and flames quickly overcame the entire truck within a few short minutes. A Uintah County Sheriff deputy was first to arrive on the scene, then Uintah County Fire shortly thereafter. Two fire trucks were dispatched.” Thankfully, no injuries were reported from the incident.
