Thanks to the Department of Workforce Services, the numbers on unemployment are in. December’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Utah is estimated at 3.5% which is the same as the month before. Approximately 62,650 Utahns are unemployed. The December national unemployment rate was down one-tenth of a percentage point at 4.1%. Unemployment showed a slight decrease for counties in northeastern Utah. Daggett County bumped down from 4.2% to 4.1% unemployment while Duchesne County and Uintah County both decreased from 3.8% to 3.7%. Utah’s December private sector employment recorded a year-over-year expansion of 2.2%, or a 32,800 job increase. The private-sector industry groups that posted net year-over-year job gains were led by education and health services, professional and business services, and construction jobs. New state employment data is scheduled for release on March 12th.
