KNEU 1250A special event that’s had a few years off is back and taking place in Vernal next week. Now hosted by the Utah Association of Counties, the 2021 Building Utah Conference (also known as ‘Utah Roads School’) will welcome leaders and professionals from all over the state next week including Governor Spencer Cox who will not only speak to this group of professionals but will also perform several ceremonial bill signings.
Using simple bomb equipment and technology, Sweetwater County (Wyoming) law enforcement and bomb squad hosted a successful Easter egg hunt for a visually impaired child. The eggs were literally wired causing them to beep in order to be found.
2020 was a difficult year for everyone but it was especially so for the elderly and those in care facilities and residential homes. According to Alicen Hatch, director of operations at the Uintah Care Center in Vernal, there have been many happy tears shed as restrictions have loosened and families have been reunited.

If you see that Jones Hole Creek on down to the Green River has turned a strange shade of green there’s no need to worry. The US Fish and Wildlife Service is conducting a dye test to determine the stream flow of Jones Hole Creek and the springs that feed into the Jones Hole Fish Hatchery.
The Daggett County Commissioners have had a busy month and provided an update in the April Flaming Gorge Gazette. Within their update the Commissioners shared that exploring housing solutions has been on their to-do list. “As you all know, our housing situation for new employees or residents moving into Daggett County is challenging,” shared the Commissioners.
While the East Myton Complex Fire is not considered a continued threat and containment efforts are going well it does represent something very concerning. Mike Eriksson with Forestry, Fire, and State Lands says this week’s fire east of Myton is the biggest that the state has seen so far this year.

They are the current recipients of a traveling trophy in the form of a heavyweight boxer style belt for having the “best comprehensive healing rate.” Way to go ladies on being the current title holders and watchkeepers of the West 02 Area Championship Belt.
The Easter Bunny has been as excited as anyone about getting back to normal and putting smiles on kids faces but that doesn't mean he can’t use some extra help. Locally, a special group of people stepped up to do just that. Uintah School District announced on Wednesday that the District’s bus drivers donated 148 Easter baskets filled with candy and toys to the Utah Division of Child and Family Services.
Tuesday was a good day for containment on the double wildfire located about a mile east of Myton. The North River Fire started Sunday, March 28th and the East Myton Fire was called in on the afternoon of March 29th. Heavy winds on Monday pushed both fires away from the city of Myton but still within an area with homes, ranches, and infrastructure.
A local educator is playing an important role in a new effort undertaken by USU. “Utah State University President Noelle E. Cockett has formed a working group that will create a framework for future university land acknowledgement statements that will recognize and respect Native American peoples as the original stewards of USU land,” shares the USU announcement.
It's the time of year for yard cleaning and that means open burning. Uintah County’s spring burn window is March 30th through May 30th. No burn permit is required but Dispatch MUST be notified of the burn at 435-789-4222. Vernal, Naples, and Ballard City have the same burn window but each DO require a permit to burn and Dispatch must be notified.
